We are so glad you are interested in joining Sutter Health! **Organization:** EMC - Eden Medical Center **Position Overview:** Under the supervision of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery physicians, this position supports the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service. Principal responsibilities include assessing and managing the medical care of patients in collaboration with the physician. The incumbent will also communicate with other consulting physicians, nursing, case management, ancillary staff, as well as, patients and their families to ensure the continuity and coordination of care. This position also serves as a clinical resource and actively participates in the Trauma ACS Program clinical quality and education initiatives. Minimum of five (5) years of RN in critical care, trauma, acute care, or emergency nursing required. Critical care experience preferred. Intermediate knowledge of specialized training in trauma, acute care, surgery and internal medicine, to include assessment, interpretation, management, and evaluation of patient care as would normally be acquired through completion of a graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program, which meets the education requirements of the California Board of Registered Nursing. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills Ability to handle multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work with autonomy, adaptability, flexibility and maintain composure during pressures and adverse conditions and work as an effective team member in a collaborative role with other disciplines. Management reserves the right to revise the job description or require that other tasks be performed when the circumstances of the job change (for example, emergencies, staff changes, workload, or technical development)._ + **Builds strong working relationships with nursing and ancillary support staff.** + **Utilizes clinical knowledge to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an educational program for both patients and their families.** + **Serves as a primary resource for patient education materials.** + **Works with Trauma and Acute Care Surgery team to plan in-service and continuing education programs for EMC staff.** + **Assists with education, both formal and informal, for staff upon request.** + **Participate in research projects established within the organization.** **Technical Skills:** + **Assess, plan, and implement the medical care of assigned Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Services patients in collaboration with the physicians.** + **Provides services to patients through physical assessment and development of the plan of care.** + **Performs the history and physical examination of patients and documents finding in the patient's medical record.** + **Completes and documents a tertiary exam on all assigned trauma patients.** + **Coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges on assigned team including, but not limited to, tests, procedures, consultations, and writing of orders in conjunction with the physician.** + **Prescribes, adjusts, or discontinues medications within the Nurse Practitioner's legal scope of practice as dictated by California law and licensing regulations in conjunction with the physician.** + **Consults and/or confers with the physician or other professional staff as necessary.** + **Works with case manager and social worker to identify and address patient discharge needs.** + **Maintains open lines of communication with the medical team and the nursing staff in the various clinical care units or outpatient trauma clinic.** + **Documents care in the patient's medical record according to the standards of the Medical Center and Medical Staff.** **Quality:** + **Participate in Trauma ACS Program performance improvement activities, including identification and reporting of patient complications and process of care issues.** + **Participate in Trauma ACS program and policy development, risk management assessment and survey readiness.** **Leadership and Professional Accountability:** + **Updates own knowledge of trauma and acute care surgery. Maintains current knowledge and competency by attending national meetings, continuing education workshops, and reviewing current literature.** + **Reviews and updates Standardized Procedures for role per policy to assure current best evidence is reflected and BRN requirements are met.
