Overview
The Store Assistant Manager oversees the daily operations of a Travel Mart location, ensuring efficient management of personnel, financial performance, operations, and customer and vendor relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule and manage labor to ensure efficient and safe store operations.
- Train and develop cashiers and maintenance staff to perform their roles effectively.
- Maintain store cleanliness and upkeep to meet or exceed company and customer expectations.
- Improve store profitability by increasing non-fuel SKU profit margins by at least 5% year-over-year.
- Drive fuel sales growth by achieving at least a 5% increase in incremental gallons per month compared to the previous year.
- Guide office management in identifying and implementing annual cost-saving initiatives.
- Conduct thorough performance evaluations for all subordinates at least once per year.
- Ensure accurate daily bank deposits and financial reporting to track store performance.
- Foster strong vendor partnerships to enhance store presentation and profitability.
- Represent Travel Mart in the community and company initiatives as an ambassador.
- Identify new revenue opportunities each month while eliminating underperforming products and promotions.
- Lead and develop a high-performing, team-oriented staff through coaching, mentoring, and training.
- Implement and oversee safety, sanitation, and housekeeping protocols to ensure compliance and optimal store presentation.

- Lead by example in performing essential tasks such as cleaning restrooms, maintaining floors and equipment, managing cash, rotating stock, and balancing receipts. Document and submit daily activity reports to HR and store leadership for training and operational insights.
- Ensure proper licensing and compliance for food service, alcohol sales, safety, and employee training.
- Protect company assets through effective workers’ compensation programs, security measures, and employee training.
- Secure and maintain necessary food handling and preparation permits.
- Provide timely communication of company policies and procedures to support employee growth and compliance.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on employee performance, issuing disciplinary actions or recognition as appropriate.
- Manage inventory and place orders with vendors to maintain appropriate stock levels.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience managing a team of at least three employees.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Proficiency in email, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
- Basic knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles.
- Understanding of cash management, security, safety, and sanitation practices.
- Ability to multitask while managing employees, customers, and store operations effectively.
